Emma's Dream Come True

Hey y’all it’s Emma back! You guys might remember me as the Kinesiology major here at The University of Tennessee. I hope you were able to get some background on The Dream Connection and the members of the “Dedicated to Dreams” campaign.

LET’S TALK DREAMS!

We all can remember back to those days when we were toddlers, when we had that ONE dream that meant everything to you.  At the time it seemed like your life was going to come to a halt if this ONE dream did not come true. Me, being a sassy little girl, dreamt of meeting all of the Disney princesses.

By starting with the dream of meeting the Disney princesses, it escalated quickly. Young Emma started to have an obsession with the Disney princesses and wanted EVERYTHING to do with them.  When I was about four years old, I BEGGED my parents to change my entire room theme to be Disney princesses.

My ideal thought of this room was everything Disney princesses. I wanted a princess bed, sheets, decorations, carpets, everything you could imagine. The picture below was what my young self had in mind for my new bedroom theme, with hopes of having my parents book me a trip to Disney World soon.

It was one random day, when my sister and I got the news that we were going to Disney World.  Our parents had already packed everything for us, and we were on the way to the airport.  I remember sitting in the backseat of the car thinking to myself that this can’t be real.  I was SO excited!

We finally arrived in Disney and at this point I knew my dream was finally coming true.  Throughout the entire trip, I remember thanking my parents for making the only thing that mattered to me (at the time) actually happen. The first princess I met in Disney World was Snow White.  While approaching Snow White to take a picture with her, young me just started crying because my emotions were all over the place. Needless to say, Snow White was now my new FAVORITE princess. Being able to experience your dream come true is one of the best feelings a child could ever experience.  The Dream Connection does a fantastic job with helping children in the East Tennessee area to fulfill their dreams.

My number one value in life is helping others to reach their goals. The Dream Connection truly caught my eye as my future career path deals with helping people on a daily basis. My ultimate goal in life is to be working as a Physician Assistant in a Pediatric Oncology Unit. I feel that working with this non-profit directly aligns with future goals. It is such a rewarding feeling to see the smile on the children’s faces knowing that you have made an impact on them. I feel that the mission statement of The Dream Connection, to fulfill a “once-in-a-lifetime dream come true” of children with life threatening or chronically debilitating illnesses, directly correlates to my number one value as a person.

I hope you enjoyed listening to my dream as a little girl and why The Dream Connection holds a special place in my heart. Stay tuned to hear more about the other four group member’s dreams. High HOPEs

Hello, it's Hope! The Marketing major member of Dedicated to Dreams. I am glad you stopped by to hear about my dreams as a kid. Now that I have introduced myself, let’s talk dreams. When I was a kid, I had so many dreams. I wanted to be a singer, actress, and a princess. I also really wanted a treehouse, but my dad does not know how to build anything so that dream never happened. Although I am mentioning many of my childhood dreams, I want to focus not necessarily on my dreams coming true, but how the support system I had made me feel like I could accomplish anything I dreamed of. When I was younger, I was a competitive gymnast. I would spend 12-16 hours of the week at practice, and I loved every minute of it. I would beg my parents for new leotards constantly. I kept up to date with all the Olympic gymnasts like Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, and Jordyn Wieber. I enjoyed all four gymnastic events, but my favorite was uneven bars. If there ever was an open gym practice, I would be a...

Matt's MLB Dream!

Hey everyone, it’s Matt from “Dedicated to Dreams.” In this blog you guys will get to read my childhood dream of playing for the MLB! I hope you enjoy reading about it! I have been playing sports my entire life, starting at the age of 4. I played baseball, football, basketball, golf and even volleyball (for a little while at least, I wasn’t that good haha). The first sport I played was baseball and have been in love with it every day since! Growing up I started seeing myself progress and getting better and better every year, and wanted to try out for a full-time travel team. I knew if I wanted to play it was going to be expensive and I was going to have to work harder than I ever had before. I tried out for my first team when I was eleven and ended up making it, it made me love every second of the game. My dream had always been to go to Vanderbilt and play for the Commodores then hopefully after that play for my favorite MLB team… The Chicago White Sox!...
