Slippers to Cleats

Slippers to Cleats

Hey y'all!! Im Bree Shoemaker and before you ask...NO I do not make shoes! I am so excited to tell you guys about my dreams as a child and even now as a college student.

My dream is a little different than most little girls. Most girls want to be a vet , an actress, or a princess, but not me. I never wanted to do anything like that. I wanted to be a college SOFTBALL player.

First things first, I have played sports my whole life like WHOLE life so wanting to be a college athlete was my one and only dream. I started playing softball at the age of 5 and then grew to love it so much I never wanted to stop. My dream of playing college softball was string that I had my parents pay tuition for me to transfer high schools so I could be moire successful. I went to a highschool where I flourished and even went to the State Tournament my senior year.

Going into high school I still had my dream of being a college athlete but being a girl and getting a scholarship for sports is hard. I set out to email EVERY college coach email I could find. I went to camps, tournaments, and visited so many campuses, but I got nothing. I was really discouraged about not getting all these offers like my friends, but I had not given up yet. I pushed and annoyed coaches and keep going to camps to show case my talents. I still had nothing. Fast forward going into my Junior year and all my friends know where they are going and have college offers to continue their academic and athletic careers. Then there is me... no offers, no interested, no time and no hope left. Time is dwindling down and I have nothing and not a lot of time.

Then along comes the end of my junior year and a college coach reaches out and wants me to come visit there campus. I go and fall in love with their campus and verbally commit to wanting to play college softball.

I say all of this to say we all have different dreams and many different ways of life. I was able to fulfill my dream of being a college softball player because I did not give up and no one gave up on me. This also goes for the Dream Connection. They help special kids create specials dreams. Just like me and you these children have dreams, but because of an illness these children and their families have a harder time being able to achieve these goals. I urge you to donate to this special nonprofit to help these children reach their dreams. You will be creating and allowing these kids to have core memories with their loved ones. You WILL change a life.

You can donate through our Indiegogo campaign “Dedicated to Dreams” and you can find it at this link: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dedicated-to-dreams#/

Thank y'all so much fro reading my post! There will be more from our group members soon.

High HOPEs

Hello, it's Hope! The Marketing major member of Dedicated to Dreams. I am glad you stopped by to hear about my dreams as a kid. Now that I have introduced myself, let’s talk dreams. When I was a kid, I had so many dreams. I wanted to be a singer, actress, and a princess. I also really wanted a treehouse, but my dad does not know how to build anything so that dream never happened. Although I am mentioning many of my childhood dreams, I want to focus not necessarily on my dreams coming true, but how the support system I had made me feel like I could accomplish anything I dreamed of. When I was younger, I was a competitive gymnast. I would spend 12-16 hours of the week at practice, and I loved every minute of it. I would beg my parents for new leotards constantly. I kept up to date with all the Olympic gymnasts like Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, and Jordyn Wieber. I enjoyed all four gymnastic events, but my favorite was uneven bars. If there ever was an open gym practice, I would be a...

Matt's MLB Dream!

Hey everyone, it’s Matt from “Dedicated to Dreams.” In this blog you guys will get to read my childhood dream of playing for the MLB! I hope you enjoy reading about it! I have been playing sports my entire life, starting at the age of 4. I played baseball, football, basketball, golf and even volleyball (for a little while at least, I wasn’t that good haha). The first sport I played was baseball and have been in love with it every day since! Growing up I started seeing myself progress and getting better and better every year, and wanted to try out for a full-time travel team. I knew if I wanted to play it was going to be expensive and I was going to have to work harder than I ever had before. I tried out for my first team when I was eleven and ended up making it, it made me love every second of the game. My dream had always been to go to Vanderbilt and play for the Commodores then hopefully after that play for my favorite MLB team… The Chicago White Sox!...
